<Part 2: Chapter 8> Reclaiming Democratic Citizenship While Tackling Covid-19 in South Korea, Suk-Ki Kong, Hyun-Chin Lim

The final chapter in Part Two is Chapter Eight. Suk-Ki Kong and Hyun-Chin Lim’s ‘Reclaiming Democratic Citizenship While Tackling Covid-19 in South Korea’ revisits the ‘K-quarantine’ model to reflect critically on the effects the country’s management of the pandemic has had on democratic citizenship. Initially highly effective in managing the pandemic, it ran into trouble when confronted with the practices of discrimination, exclusion, and inequality in Korean society, leading, just like we saw in Chapter Six above, to some unjust social impacts. This chapter calls for a reclaiming of democratic citizenship in order to reduce these unjust and unequal social impacts.
